NEW DELHI: Tesla is set to make its highly anticipated entry into the Indian market and open its first showrooms in key cities.
After years of speculation, the electric vehicle giant is now focusing on establishing a presence in India’s rapidly expanding EV sector.
Reports indicate that Tesla is targeting major cities for its first showrooms, viewing them as strategic hubs for the brand’s entry due to their tech-savvy consumer base and growing infrastructure for electric vehicles.

Where could Tesla’s first showrooms be located?
Tesla has reportedly selected a location in the Aerocity area near New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) for its first showroom in the capital, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
The sources revealed that the area is known for its proximity to hotels, retail outlets, and the offices of global corporations, speaking on the condition of anonymity due to the private nature of the discussions.

In Mumbai, Tesla has also identified a location in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), a prominent business and retail hub near the city’s airport, for its showroom.
This strategic positioning in both cities reflect Tesla’s plan to target high-traffic, upscale areas for its initial stores in India. Both the Delhi and Mumbai showrooms will be approximately 5,000 square feet (464.52 square meters) in size.
According to sources cited in a Reuters report, Tesla has actively sought showroom spaces in India since late 2023, aiming to begin sales in the country.

This marks a shift in strategy after the company paused its initial market entry plans in 2022. The move signals Tesla’s renewed focus on tapping into India’s rapidly growing automotive market, which has become the third largest in the world.

Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk in the United States, and they discussed various topics, including space exploration, mobility, and technology.
Tesla’s strategic plans for India’s EV market
Tesla’s entry into India goes beyond just launching showrooms. The company plans to bring its entire lineup of electric vehicles to the Indian market, including popular models such as the Model 3 and Model Y.
India’s middle class is increasingly seeking affordable EVs, and Tesla’s competitive pricing and cutting-edge technology could position it as a key player in India’s EV revolution.

Tesla’s expansion into India will also coincide with the country’s ambitious goals to reduce carbon emissions and promote electric mobility.
