Shahid Kapoor’s idea on Jab We Met divorce scene
In July 2024, when SCREEN asked filmmaker Imtiaz Ali about the current status of Geet and Aditya, he promptly replied, “At a divorce lawyer’s office.”
On Friday, January 24, Shahid Kapoor shared his thoughts on where the beloved couple from ‘Jab We Met‘ would be today.
The actor, who was attending SCREEN Live in Mumbai, was presented with Imtiaz Ali’s answer during the Expresso event.
Shahid said laughing, “That’s actually a fun idea that Geet and Aditya are now breaking up because they are frustrated with each other. Aditya is like, ‘She is her own favorite, who can ever put up with her?’”
When it was mentioned that his answer was breaking many fans’ hearts, Shahid quickly responded, “If our filmmaker thinks these two will divorce each other, then who am I to come in between? I am just an actor.”
Shahid Kapoor’s comments on ‘Jab We Met’ spark disappointment
However, his comments have not been well received by fans of the film. Instagram users erupted with disappointment, with many feeling that Shahid’s words undermined the cherished characters and their love story.
One user posted, “Please don’t kill the last delusion that keeps us alive!! This shouldn’t be coming from Aditya..it breaks ”

Some fans even drew comparisons between Shahid’s character in Jab We Met and his portrayal of Kabir Singh. “He’s more Kabir Singh than Aditya IRL,” one user remarked, contrasting the two roles.
The mention of Shahid and Kareena’s real-life breakup also resurfaced, with a comment reading, “Kareena dodged a bullet and got her nawab. Jokes on Shahid.”

The debate intensified as fans pointed out the complexities of Geet’s character arc.
One user reminded everyone that Geet “loved Anshuman more than herself,” referring to her devotion to her boyfriend, who initially rejected her but later sought her back after Aditya’s intervention.
Many felt Shahid had oversimplified Geet’s character, reducing her to a stereotype.
“Shahid…time to let go of bitterness,” said a critic.
