Selena Gomez recalls emotional moment as she plays unreleased song for Taylor Swift

Recalling the moment, Gomez, 32, shared how she played Swift, 35, her then-unreleased song, which would later become the 2019 hit ‘Lose You to Love Me.’

“When I played her ‘Lose You to Love Me,’ right before it came out, she and her amazing mom [Andrea Swift] started to cry and then I started crying,” Gomez revealed. “You know, it’s very sweet.”

The song was a personal one for Gomez, touching on the themes of reclaiming oneself after the end of a relationship that no longer served her.

According to US Weekly, fans widely speculated that the song was about her on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Bieber, with whom she had a tumultuous romance from 2010 to 2018.

Gomez went on to explain the significance of the moment, emphasizing how much she values Swift’s opinion.

“I value her opinion so much, because she’s super honest. It’s very helpful, and I love people who are honest,” she said.

The interview also touched on Taylor Swift‘s recent supportive shoutout to Gomez following the release of her collaboration album with Benny Blanco, ‘I Said I Loved You First,’ earlier this month.

Swift took to her Instagram Stories to express her excitement for the album, writing, “I LOVE THIS ALBUM SO MUCH OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDD.”

Gomez’s album includes the track “Younger and Hotter Than Me,” which some fans speculate may be a subtle reference to Swift.

The friendship between Gomez and Swift dates back to 2008 when they first met while dating brothers Nick Jonas and Joe Jonas, respectively. Swift has always spoken fondly of Gomez, emphasizing their strong bond.

In 2020, she told ‘The Wall Street Journal,’ “I knew from when I met [Selena], I would always have her back. In my life, I have the ability to forgive people who have hurt me. But I don’t know if I can forgive someone who hurts her.”
