MUMBAI, MAHARASHTRA: Bollywood has long been associated with grand, fairy-tale romances, both on and off the screen. However, the love story of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan stands out for its unconventional beginning.
While many assume that it was Saif, known for his suave and charming persona, who took the first step, the reality was quite the opposite. It was Kareena who initiated their relationship, breaking traditional norms of courtship.

The unconventional love story of Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan
The story of Kareena and Saif’s romance began in 2007 on the sets of ‘Tashan,’ a film that may not have performed well at the box office but played a crucial role in shaping their future.
At the time, Kareena was coming out of a long-term relationship with Shahid Kapoor, while Saif had been divorced from his first wife, Amrita Singh, for several years.

Despite their different personal backgrounds—Kareena being the scion of the legendary Kapoor family and Saif hailing from the royal Pataudi lineage—the two connected on a deeper level. Their relationship featured warmth, companionship, and mutual admiration.

According to News18, Kapoor said in an interview with Niranjan Iyer, “I was the one who kind of pushed all the right buttons. Saif is actually the kind of guy who is not very forthcoming with any woman.”
She further added, “He will never make the first move. He’s too English and restrained in that way. When I made the first move, he was like, ‘I can’t believe that Kareena Kapoor is doing this.’ He was like, ‘Why?’ It was like an entire building had crumbled on his head.”
“So, I don’t know what he meant by that, whether he thought he was very lucky or what. But eventually, it all worked out. And I think I was responsible for it,” the 44-year-old actress said.

After dating for five years, the couple tied the knot on October 16, 2012. Their wedding was a grand affair spanning five days, with multiple ceremonies, including a registered marriage, a lavish reception, and a traditional “dawat-e-walima” hosted by Khan’s mother, Sharmila Tagore, at the Pataudi Palace.
