Mika Singh explains how Salman Khan’s suggestion led to a lyrical change

The song, which featured a catchy beat and powerful vocals, became a hit, but it also sparked a memorable moment between Singh and Salman.

Singh addressed rumors that he changed the lyrics of the song, specifically replacing the name “Katrina” with “Jacquelina.”

Singh confirmed the story, saying that Salman requested the change, and he readily agreed.

“Yes, I made the change, but Salman was never upset about it,” Singh recalled.

He further added, “At the time of Loot, I hadn’t sung any songs for him yet. It was only after that film that our collaboration began.”

Singh clarified that the narrative requirements of the song, not personal issues or disputes, drove the change.

“The character in the song needed specific lyrics to fit the story, so I used various names,” Singh explained.

“When Salman suggested changing the name, I replaced ‘Katrina’ with ‘Jacquelina’,” he went on to say. “He also emphasized that he wasn’t upset by the request, as he always adapts his songs to suit the movie’s theme.”

Their camaraderie extends beyond the professional world, as the two are known to have a warm friendship.

The incident, as remembered by Singh, showcases the easygoing nature of their relationship and how they’ve continued to work together on numerous successful projects since ‘Loot.’

The anecdote has once again highlighted the collaborative spirit of Bollywood, where even small changes, like replacing a name in a song, can contribute to creating iconic hits.
