WASHINGTON, DC: Michelle Obama recently opened up about a very relatable part of married life — one that even a former president can’t avoid: the household thermostat.

During a lighthearted appearance on ‘Good Hang with Amy Poehler,’ released Tuesday, May 13, the former first lady, 61, shared insights into her nighttime routine and the small but familiar disagreement she and her husband Barack Obama often faced.

Michelle Obama shares hilarious thermostat standoff with Barack

“The change in temperature is wild for any woman anytime, especially in this battle with a partner, right?” Michelle told Poehler, 53. “Because [Barack is] always cold.”

She recalled a familiar late-night scenario.

“And I’m like, ‘Do not touch.’ And sometimes I wake up hot, and I’ll wake him, [and say], ‘Did you touch the thermostat? You touched the thermostat, didn’t you?’” she said with a laugh. “He’s like, ‘I didn’t, I swear to God!’”

Michelle said Barack eventually learned not to interfere with the room temperature.
“He’s afraid of the thermostat,” she joked. “I said, ‘I don’t care what you do, do not touch anything in this room after I go to sleep.'”

Beyond bedtime temperature wars, Michelle also talked about the physical changes she experienced entering her 60s — including dealing with a common and painful condition.

“I had frozen shoulder a couple years ago,” she said, referring to adhesive capsulitis, which causes stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint.

Poehler, relating to the experience, responded: “And guess what? Nobody knows what causes it, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

“Like every ailment for women in their 50s,” she added.

“They’re like, ‘Yeah. I guess it just hurts,'” the Parks and Recreation star continued. “And it’s like, how long is it gonna hurt? And they’re like, ‘I guess forever maybe?'”

In recent months, Michelle has openly discussed the gradual changes she’s been making to her physical and mental well-being as she enters her 60s — including how she’s been working to navigate this new chapter of life after leaving the White House with her husband, now 63.
